The BMX Worlds 2009 presented by ROCKSTAR Energy Drink seemed
bewitched this year. Lots of rain and many interruptions gave the orga-team a
hard time. Nevertheless they overdid themselves with an organisational
masterpiece and managed to get through almost all of the pro finals.
It was the undisputed BMX highlight of the year! The BMX Worlds 2009 presented by
ROCKSTAR Energy Drink, celebrating a quarter of a century of BMX at the
Jugendpark, had them all: The original “Haro Freestyle Team”, the entire BMX
freestyle sports world-elite and thousands of BMX fans. Only the sun didn’t want to
play along too much – many contests had to be paused repeatedly, cancelled and
postponed.
Dirt finals saved the day! The new dirt champion is called Anthony Napolitan with far
out runs – stunning. And it got very hot with Francisco Jimenez, who wasn’t happy
with his first two runs and tried to persuade the judges with a litlle bit of flesh – he
went down the starter completely naked and the crowd was very pleased. Definetely
his best of three.
Nobody doubted who would go for gold in the vert, and multiple X-Games champion
Jamie Bestwick proved them right. In the Vert contest Jamie totally rocked the pipe
and literally flew away into Cologne’s night sky.
Fans of the miniramp were in for a big surprise. Mark Webb (UK) came in third and
Venezuelan Daniel Dhers went for gold. Who’s the vice champion? It’s not Ben
Wallace (UK). Fourteen year old US-Boy “Mad Dog” Bananwitcz came in second
with an amazing run and left people around the miniramp wondering who that whizz
kid was.
Flatland was dominated by the french connection Raphael Chiquet and Matthias
Dandois. These two frenchmen had very persuasive runs and went for gold and
silver. Jorge Gomez (Spain) came in third.
Saturday’s main feature was a blast from the past: the original “Haro Freestyle
Team” with Ron Wilkerson, Bryan Blyther, Dave Nourie and special guest Mike
Dominguez showed all BMX enthusiasts what the term “freestyle” really means.
Trust us, these guys will have sore arms and legs, not from riding, but from signing
autographs and running from fans.
Another curiosity of the day ist the gold in girls flat. Monika Hint became world
champion 18 years after her first gold in a mixed run at the world cup 1991.
Apart from the BMX Worlds 2009 ceremony, there were other occasions to celebrate
– at the grand opening party at the Sensor Club and the official BMX Worlds 2009
Party at the Gloria, BMX Fans and riders rocked out all night.
Finally, we would love to thank all riders and fans for sticking around despite the
shitty weather. It’s a beautiful thing to see, how many people you can get together
for the love of this great sport. Thanks to all of you it was a wonderful weekend here
at the contest with the best atmosphere one could hope for. We can’t wait to see
you again next year, at another BMX event at the Jugendpark CologneYouth.
Last but not least we would like to thank all our partners and sponsors as the BMX
Worlds 2009 would not have been posible without their great support:
ROCKSTAR Energy Drink, BRAUN, British Knights, Feltbikes, Nikon, Sony
Ericsson, Skullcandy, Stereobikes, Dickies, Früh.
By the way: more than 12.000 BMX-Fans didn’t care about the terrible weather
and came to the Jugendpark Cologne to celebrate this great Sport, 100.000 watched
all the action from the finals LIVE at their computers. Thanks for making this possible
freecaster.tv – this is helping the sport grow!
11.07.2009 Allstars stealin young guns show!
Saturday?s absolute highlight of the BMX Worlds 2009 presented by ROCKSTAR Energy Drink at the Jugendpark in Cologne was definetely the legendary “Haro Freestyle Team”, as they put tears of joy in the eyes of many.
Despite rather chaotic weather conditions and rain delays all day, the atmosphere at
the BMX Worlds was fantastic.
Ron Wilkerson, Bryan Blyther, Dave Nourie and special guest Mike Dominguez (all
from USA) gave everyone here a lesson in freestyle – they defined the term once
again. For all here at the flatland it was a memorable event when, BMX icon Mat
Hoffman himself anounced Bob Haro and his Team decades after they first invented
this sport. Mat even did some filming for his very own family archive.
The pro dirt qualifiers also took place and gave us a good glimpse of things to come
in the finals. With a no-hand backflip by Simon Moratz (GER) and truckdriver to
tailwhip by Anthony Napolitan we?ve seen some very sick stuff. Rob Darden from
ROCKSTAR was also on fire with his 360 double-tailwhip. The crowd will go crazy
when the best of the best will rock the jumps underneath the ?Zoobrücke? bridge on
Sunday.
With the pro finals at night, another main feature started off with some spectacular
pictures, but had to be canceled half way through as the rain forced us to postpone
the second half.
Seems like the bad weather has a good side to it – never before we had so many
finals lined up for one day. Therefore Sunday seems to be the day perfect day to get
a big load of BMX action – get here and see it live!
10.07.2009 Are you ready for the Worlds?

BMX fans have been waiting for this extraordinary event for five years – the official worldchampionships
of the iBMXFF are finally back at the Jugendpark Cologne. There?s heaps
of good news this year. The rain?s gone and the international BMX elite is here – what a
coincidence!
This years Riders registrations have surpassed all expectations and read like a who?s who
of the international BMX scene. In order to rise up to this ocasion, we?ve put together an
excellent array of areas and the weekend?s packed with highlights.
The first day is filled with qualifiers that will give us a good glimpse of what?s going to
happen all weekend. We?re really pumped and there is more than just one reason to
celebrate, BMXing being the most important one. Let?s get together for the Grand Opening
Party at the Sensor Club Cologne.
On Saturday three finals will take place.
At the ‚BRAUN cruZer Spine? only the best will compete for the world championship title.
Later on, the judges will have to pick a champion at the pro finals for flatland and the new
king will be greeted by Ron Wilkerson, Brian Blyther and David Nourie of the original „Haro
Freestyle Team“. Along with Mike Dominguez they?ll show us how they used to roll back in
the day. You don?t want to miss this legendary 80?s BMX freestyle show.
At night BMX flying high at the Dirt Finals underneath the Zoobrücke. This is one of our
personal highlights and these finals are shaping up to become one of the main features
this weekend. After that there?s really just on thing to do – we want to see you all at the
Official BMX-Worlds 2009 riders party at the Gloria – hell yeah!
On Sunday we?ve got the anticipated park-finals lined up of for you. We?re very excited
about what the finalists have in store for us.
And last but not least, the finals of ‚the supreme discipline? will leave us speechless as the
judges will crown the world champion. This rarity will conclude this BMX extravaganza.
We?re all happy to have you here at the Jugendpark and we?ll do our best to make these
world-championships as memeorable and exciting as possible.
Cheers to that!
07.07.2009 Park and Dirt are prepared!
The BMX Worlds 2009 presented by ROCKSTAR Energy Drink from 10th till 12th of July are about to get rolling. The park-area and the dirt-track are ready to be dominated by the world?s BMX elite.
Just four days away from kick off and construction work for the BMX Worlds 2009 at the Jugendpark in Cologne has already finished. BMX-Gourmand and spielbetrieb Managing Director Peter Jandt (40) along with the camp-ramps team have worked very hard to serve, what roughly 250 adrenalin-longing park riders and their fans came to enjoy - a hell of a ride! Innovation and flow were top of the list of priorities while creating this over-the-top BMX park.
This year they spawned an amazing combination of four different floors, which are all connected with transitions, channels and wicked wallrides. The results are endless amounts of different tricks and lines, enabling a very diverse and exciting contest experience for visitors and riders alike.
Along with the beloved classics, there are also some new additions to the BMX Worlds 2009 menu. „The new pyramid with a curb on top and a giant Channel-Wallride called Mac will demand everything from and give a lot back to all riders - we`re just fired up about the opportunities, says Peter Jandt.
Once again experienced dirt-shaper and pro-rider duo Markus Hampl (29) and Benjamin Paulsen (27) have come together under the Zoobrücke in Cologne, to create an innovative and stunning new edition of the BMX Worlds dirt line. This year?s track comes complete with a spectacular seven meter roll-in followed by a steep turn to catapult riders down a roller and over three highly technical jumps.
The exclusive location right next to the river and under the cover of this giant structure, will give birth to an exceptional atmosphere, that is unique to the BMX Worlds at the Jugendpark Cologne. Bikes will be flying high!
From flying high to laying low: Four hundred square meters of the smoothest wooden floor, DJ Friction´s mix of the riders favourite tunes and very, very special guests will drive all flatland aficionados crazy. Under these circumstances this once again open air contest will be one for the books.
For our mini ramp contest we´ve got the worlds biggest portable and one of the most popular mini ramp set up for the riders to shred away. They will make no secret of what the Braun cruZer Spine has to offer to both, the riders, and the audience.
Last but not least we are proud to announce that there´s a worldcup-tested half pipe waiting to crown one of the high class competitors in this supreme discipline of BMX.
All in all, this year´s BMX Worlds tracks are shaping up to become the perfect playground for an extraordinary riders elite, that no adrenaline junkie would want to miss out on!
06.07.2009 Don't forget the Party-Sessions!
The amazing BMX Worlds presented by ROCKSTAR Energy Drink are only four days away. No BMX Worlds would be complete without our legendary Grand Opening Party and the Official BMX-Worlds party. Don’t miss it!

30.06.2009 Construction work is running on full speed!
The development and construction work for the BMX Worlds 2009 presented by ROCKSTAR Energy Drink from July 10th-12th in Cologne’s Jugendpark are in full swing!
Even in this year spielbetrieb-manager Peter Jandt and the camp-ramps-team are about to build a street course that is going to tell it’s own tale.
15 men are working 10 hours everyday in 10 days to built up a design of a world champion street course with a total area of 1575 sqm. 1.500 sqm for driving covered plates made of wood are going to be obstructed and then coated in the end. A lot of work to do, but everything is just for the well-being of the BMX-Sport, the Riders and the Fans, because we’re going to have a huge pleasure when on Friday the 10th of July, we are finally able to say: “LET THE GAMES BEGIN!”
Already registered riders get the possibility to practice on the new and virgin street course on Thursday, 9th of July at 12:00 am.
26.06.2009 All the contestant spots are taken!
The event is highly anticipated by fans and riders alike. There will be a
total of 450 registered athletes (230 of them are pros). Sadly, what the
promoters of the BMX Worlds have feared, has become reality: Even
though the registration deadline was already two weeks ago, there are
still many riders trying to sign up for the contest. The disciplines of
Dirt, Park and Miniramp are completely booked (amateurs and pros).
For the sake of a complication-free contest, no more riders can be
added to the event. The only chance you have to get a spot in the
tournament (for the ones not registered) is to show up on Friday (July
10th) at 10 a.m. on location. There you will have the chance to take a
spot of registered riders who couldn't make it to the event.
Once again, here is the scedule:
On Thursday (July 9th), 9 am till 6 pm and on Friday (July 10th) from 8
to 10 am, the sign-up for already registered riders will be held. If you
haven't showed up on Friday by 10 am, your spot will be given to one
of the riders that are not registered yet.
But whoever will join, the line-up is priceless. Especially since nearly
every Pro-Team on this planet has registered their top riders. Among
those, Rockstar Energy Drink, Haro, Red Bull, Nike 6.0, Levi’s,
FlyBikes, Felt Bikes, BSD, XSA Russia and British Knights.
Additionally, an exhibition of 25 years of BMX history at the
Jugendpark Cologne will be held.
Hold on, there is more coming: Nikon and BMX Worlds 2009 give
away 3 top BMX bikes "COOLPIX Edition", put together by
OldschoolBMX.de! For more information, go to:
